An ancient rock fortress rising 200 meters out of the jungle, famous for its summit ruins, ancient frescoes, and the massive lion paws at the entrance.
Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic historical landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, the fortress served as a royal palace and later as a Buddhist monastery. Visitors climb a series of staircases and walkways to reach the summit, passing the world-famous Sigiriya frescoes and the Mirror Wall, which still contains ancient inscriptions. At the top, breathtaking panoramic views of forests and reservoirs reward climbers, while the surrounding water gardens and landscaped grounds showcase advanced ancient engineering and urban planning.
